I personally find it bizarre that some corners of the OSR think we should be spending our time debating how ethical it is to have mentions of sex and adult intimacy in reference to a game which has been semi-humorously summarized as being all about "killing things and taking their stuff."
Of course, I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure it's not quite as simple as that. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure of that, as well. However, I'm also sure that it is important to keep a sense of perspective on these things. ;)
ReplyDelete(And maybe even a sense of humor, too!)
I will say that in all that has happened I have gotten a lot of support for my stand, the most obvious from my players who are parents, and that means more to me than some people telling me that I need to beg forgiveness from the OSR for having a complaint.
ReplyDeleteI am not happy about Michael leaving TARGA at all, but there is nothing that I can do about that. It is a strange situation to be sure, but I see clearly that some people had a lot of bad feelings just waiting for a catalyst and last weekend was it.
A firm believer in polarization, I do not care who doesn't like me, I would rather people be truthful than fake, so last weekend was a good way to find out where people stand.
I made an offer to someone in the controversy and was politely told off, so I am grateful to know where I stand.
Take good care of TARGA, Victor.
Conan said it the simplest..
ReplyDeleteWhat is best in life?
To crush your enemies and hear the lamentations of their women.
This covers the bonking of other things on the heads with swords, taking of their stuff, and the inclusion of the opposite sex (from a male perspective anyway)
I don't think you need to "beg forgiveness" from anybody, Steve. But I also believe that there is a real difference between what we say and do as individuals, and what we say and do as representatives of organizations. In over twenty years of working with non-profits, it is my observation that it is remarkably easy for people to miss that distinction and make mistakes as a result.
ReplyDeleteI think my post is clear about where I stand, personally. I'm also personally committed to understanding and respecting the opinions of people who believe differently.
